HOKITIKA GAOL ESCAPEES.
(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAM.) HOKITIKA, December 19. At the District Court, before Judge Ward* Peter Jones, Patrick Campbell, William Barrow, and Robert Davis were charged with escaping from custody, end the two latter were also charged >with theft. They pleaded guilty, and were sentenced, Jon«s and Campbell to three months , , and Barrow and Davis to four months' imprisonment. The prisoners complained bitterly of the treatment received in gaol, before and after the offence. Judge Ward stated that he would advise the Minister of Justice to hold an enquiry into the statements, and, if corroborated, <he recommended a mitigation of the sentence.
