DUNEDIN NOTES.
,■ _ • » . (SPECIAL TO ."TITS PBESS.") DUNEDIN, December 19. Mr Arnold, M.H.R., speaking at the distribution of prizes at the George street Bohool yesterday morndng, said: —"I do not know whether it will be thought out of place for me to raise a -srarning note, but I take it that the majority of children attending the city schools belong to what is generally spoken of as the working dags. I think that if there be one thing the workers should be proud of, and watch most jealously, it is our free educational system. We have a right to demand that our children snail receive such education at the hands of the State as will give them a fair irtart, and allow them to work out their own destinies." Mr D. Brent, who ihas been on the staff ,of the Dunediu Boys' High School for over forty years, lias beea presented with a feflver salver and 206 guineas by old boys. The Agricultural and Pastoral Society h?.e decided to co-operate with the Hawke's Bay Society and write to the National Sheepbreeders' Association, pointing out the increasing adulteration of woollen goods and the unscrupulous substitution of inferior materials in the manufacture of woollen goods, which demands, in" the interests of both consumer and producer, immediate legislative- attention.
