Cavill put up a new world's swimming record for 100 yards, covering the distance an 59sec. . [Until last season in England tbe world's amateur record was 60 l-sth eec, registered by J. H. Derbyshire at Manchester ia No* vember, 1898. This time wa* reduced by a fifth of a second by P. C. V. Lane, the Sydney ewimmer, when he won the English Association's 100 yards championship at Manchester on July 24th- This record was beaten by 1 2-st-h eeo at the beginning of October by Cavill, who waa timed to «wim 100 yard* in 58 3-sth eec, but as theY English Association's conditions had not been complied with, the time could not be recognised.]
