Tha Tarawera arrived from Wellington at 11.50 a.m. yesterday. The s.s. Su-rre-y, a sister ship to the s.s. Kent, Bnd engaged in the South Airican trade, arrived from Brisbane via Timaru at about 1 p.m. yesterday. She is a fine fourmasted vessel of 5455 gross and 3947 net tonnage, and has a carrying capacity of 10.200 tons. Her dimensions are:—Length 423 ft, beam 54ft, depth of hold 32ft. She-is quite a new vessel. having been built oijly three years ago.- It was the Surrey which took the Ninth Contingent to South Africa, and she also carried a South Australian Contin gec.t, and afterwards took 1700 horses and mules «cro!»s from River Plate.
