MEETINGS, ENTERTAINMENTS, &c.
A ping pong match, played between teams from the Ashburton Guards and Ashburton Club, twenty players aside, was won by the Guards by 34 points. The members of the Bastion Memorial Juvenile Temple celebrated its second anniversary in the Druids' Hall on Tuesday evening. There was a large attendance of members and friends. Bro. R. Wilson, G.S., occupied the chair. The programme coiisisted of eongs, recitation?., glees,/ and dialogues given by the members of the Temple. A united meeting of the Anglican. Methodist, and Baptist Churches was held in the Spreydon scho&ground on Sunday afternoon. The children of the district Sundayschools marched to the ground. The various churches were represented by the Rev. T. N. Griffen (Methodist), Mr T.S. Small (Anglican), nrd the Rev. J. .7. North (Bap. tist), all of whom addressed the meeting. Hymns from Alexander's collection were sung. The object of the meeting was to arouse interest in religious matters.
At-a meeting of the Tai Tapu Band of Hope Mr J. Voss, the president, occupied the .chair. Recitations were given by Miss B. Brown. Thomas Farrell, and Richard Hunt; songs by Misses Barnett and E. Parrett; duet by Evelyn Johnston and Eva Tanner; and an address on "Stand to your guns" by the Rev. J. J. Mather. Several hymns were sung, Mr J. F. Watson acting as conductor and Mr W. K. Watson as organist.
A smoke concert took place on Tuesday at the Lyttelton Club, the members of which intend to hold a weekly reunion of the kind.
