GISBORNE, October 1. The Gisborne customs returns for last month show a record for the port, amounting to £1768. A remarkable coincidence of tbe vital statistics for the past month is that thirteen births, and a like number of deaths and marriages, were registered. , t A stir waa caused at tho Hon.' J. Carroll's house shortly" before one this morning. A Bailor, encumbered with a heavy wag, end having a wild appearance, wandered to the house. After strolling over the roof, and swinging himself down the Side of the house by the spouting, he went round to tbe front door, and stated his intention of remaining. Ho made a great r!*tter on the housetop. He was arrested, fend remanded for enquiries. He is a Finn earned Petersen.
