MARLBOROUGH LAND AND RAILWAY LEAGUE.

I -. BIaENHEIM, August 19. A full and forcible reply was given by the Marlborough Land and Railway League I to-day to the attack made by the Nelson Chamber of Commerce and Mr J. Tinline on the East Coast route of toe South Island Main Trunk line. The President quoted the report of the Parliamentary Commission of 1882, and decided unanimously in favour of the coast route -in preference to the central route towards Nelson, both from an engineering point of view and on the score of suitability of country for settlement. He said the ambition to make .Nelson the terminal point of the South Island was actuat-ing-Nelson. A resolution was passed protesting against the "false views and erroneous statements being propagated by tho Nelson Chamber of Commerce," and ordering that a copy of the address delivered by the President, in reply, be published and distributed throughout the colony,
