PERSONAL ITEMS.

I His Excellency the Governor opened the Art Society's Exhibition of Sketches yesterday afternoon. Lord Ranfurly, accompanied by Hon. C. E. Hill-Trevor (Assistant Private Secretary) left by the Rotomahana last night for Wellington. Owing to continued indisposition, Lady Ranfurly remains in this city for a day or two.

Hon. C: Louisson, Mr E. D. O'Rorke, Mr Herbert Thompson, Mr D. L. Patterson, and Dr; W. F. Bauchop left by the Rotoinahana for Wellington last night. Mr James Mills (managing director of the Union (Company), and Mr James Allen, M.H.R., were passengers from the South by the express last night, and left oy the Rotomahana for Wellington. Arrivals in town yesterday included: — Mr iH. G. Blackie (Auckland), Mr James Scott (Glasgow), Mr and Mrs Carr-Jones, Mr C. R. Allen, Mr Mcllraith, Mr J. H. Davison, Mr and Miss Schumacher,, Mr P. Shacklock, Mr H. Mirams, and Mr J. 0. Meek.

Mr J. Mendelssohn, of Dunedin, who has been on a visit to Christchurch, left by the express for the South yesterday morning.

Mr W. B. Vigers and Mr E. Wheeler were also passengers by the express. Mr T. G. Voyoe has taken up his old position as choirmaster at the Lower High Street Methodist Church.

! Mr and Mrs Walter Mocfarlane, KaiWarra, returned to Culverden by ysterday morning's train. Mr John Roberts, C.M.G., Count Kruth, Mr R. B. Grange, Mr F. Ferris, Mr <v. H. Wheeler, and Mr Woolf, left for the South by {foe express yesterday morning. ■ Mr J. Salmond, Mr A. E. Kernot, Mr G. Granville, and Mr Heyman arrived in town yesterday morning. A Napier telegram states that Mr T. Tanner has been elected chairman of the Education Board.

At the close of the service on. Sunday in the Presbyterian Church, Hororata, Miss Nelson Was.presented With a gold watch from the congregation in token of appreciation of heap many years' services as organist.
