TREE PLANTING AT HALSWELL.
A local celebration of the Coronation took p!ac* at Hagswell yesterday afternoon, in the shape cf a tree planting ceremony ia the Recreation Ground. A large number of people were present, and sports and games were provided for the young people. The trees planted were an oak, as the emblem of the Empire, planted by the Rev. H. Williams, a weeping ash, in commemoration of troopers who have fallen in the recent war, planted by Mr F. W. Qua-fe, Chairman of the School Committee, and a weeping willow, presented by the Domain Board, and planted by Mr Charies Lewis. The oak was planted" on the east side, and the ash on the west side, of the ppot where the pavilion will stand. Several appropriate speeches were made, and the ceremony ended with the singing of the National Anthem by the school children, who were drawn up in line, and other spectators. Refreshments were served to atl presemt. The children were also presented with the Coronation cards which ore being distributed at the various sdhcols.
