THE ORIENTS FUTURE MOVEMENTS.

(.BBSS __SO__»IOM ___BOB_-t-) WELLINGTON, August 8. The Admiralty has been conimunaoatfd witih regarding the movements of the Orient. It is probable she will be or_ere_ to leave for South Africa direct. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, Augustß. The outbreak of smallpox on the Orient baa caused some surprise here, seeing that there was no sign of any such disease when the troopship called here. The necessary precautions will be taken. The Health Department baa ordered all troopers who came ashore at Dunedin to report themselves to-morrow morning at Tahnna Park, where they will be vaccinated and kept in camp for fourteen days. THE COMPLAINTS CORROBORATED. (SPECIAL TO "THE PRESS.") DUNEDIN, August 7. Trooper McLean, of Queen-town, says that the first mate of the Orient informed the men that they were well fed and well treated as compared with the men on the Drayton Grange, that men by the latter boat were dying daily in the Australian Commonwealth, and that when two days out from Durban the ship ran out of all medicine. The mate of the Orient said the men by his boat were better looked after than any who had left Africa. One of the officers who returned by the Britannic says the men had a "very rough time." He fully bears out the statements made by the Wanganui- men. He further states that some of the cooks on the Britannic were in the habit of preparing dishes of ham and eggs and selling thepi upon deck to the men- On a complaint being made of this to Colonel Davies, he ordered the officers to "turn the cooks upside down" who were detected in this practice.
