AKAROA.
An ordinary meeting of this Council waa held en Wednesday evening. Present— The Mayor (Mr H. C. Orbell), Crs. Lelievre, Ingram. Leete, Munro, Armstrong, Newton. Motham, ancl Chickley. Superintendent Smith wrote, forwarding his re-port on water pressure for fire extinction, stating that it was highly satisfactory, and enumerating necessary appliances. The report was adopted. The Mayor undertook to iurnish Hon. E. C. J. Stevens with particulars of land the Council wish to purchase. The matter of planting reserve leaded to Langley and Flynn, at Ashburton, was left in lessees' hands. In the matter of est—blishing a Volunteer Fire Brigade, the Council decided to invite applications for enrolment; to pay firemen Is per head for chimney fires, and not less than 5s per head for tires; and to erect a building suitable, for brisrnde requirements. The tender of E. .Tones (£SO) was ai-cpted for lighting the wharf. *t was resolved to metal part of Bruce's Terrace and Percy street, and to discontinue the purchase of rats.
