LYTTELTON. PILFERING. At Lytte-lfcoo yesterday, two lads were charged before Captain Marciel and Mr W. Radeliffe, J.P/s, with pilfering coal from the wharf where the Whamgape was discharging. They were convicted and discharged, after receiving a- severe caution from the Bench. ASHBURTON. ALLEGED DISORDERLY CONDUCT. James Johnston was charged with, on 28th June last (1) refusing to leave licensed premise, the Mount Somers Hotel, when requested to do so by the licensee; aaid (2) making use of abusive language to Edward Batos, tbo licensee. Mir Crisp appeared for the defendant. The evidence was of a. very contradictory nature, and tha case was dismissed. BREACH OF RAILWAY BY-LAWS. In the cass of Watkins v. Tait, in which defendant was charged with allowing cattle to ira-nder on the line. Mr Cress well app?ared for tfvs Rail-nay Department. After hearing the evidence of Jas. Johnston, a platelayer, the Magistrate lined defendant 40s and cost*. BY-LAW CASES. H. Stepbenson, P. Hfaly, and F. drum wore each fined 5s and costs for riding bicycles on the footpath. John Fergie was fined Is for failing to register a dog. Rev. T. Fee was fined' 5s for allowing hia chimney to take fire. A GRAIN CASE. The- rase ri J. Brown v. W. Stonyer, in wfcich plaintiff claimed £37 17s *Bel, da-mages for nnn-fmnlment of contract, occupied nearly all the afternoon. The Magistrate reserved his decision. Mr Pur-ri-eIF appeared for pJaintiil, and Mr Francis for defendant. civil Case. Minister of Railways (Mr CrcssweU) v. T. N. Grange, claim £3 10s. Judgment for plaintiff by default.
