FALSE PRETENCES.

(PRESS ASSOCIATION TELEGRAII) GISBORNE, July 22. A mm named Frederick John Ferris, alios Francis William Ferris, pleadei "'Guilty" at the Police Court this morning to charges of vagrancy and false pretences. Sergeant Siddells stated that the prisoner had represented that he had property valued at £2000 left in England, and on the strength of that statement obtained £30 from a land agent here. He had obtained various other sums on similar pretences from lawyers and others in other parts «»f the colony Ferris was sentenced to eight months' imprisonment.
