BOROUGH COUNCILS.

SYDENHAM. The Sydenham Borough Council met last evening. Present—The Mayor (Mr B. P. Mjanhire), »i*di Crs. Forrester, Bovrden, Jones, Webb, Miller, Hadfield, Smith, McMeekan, Johnston, Clifford, and Sim. Mr W. W. Collins, M.H.R., forwarded a letter from Sir Joseph Ward, stating that the Railway Department could not. place lamps pit Falgrave street crossing, ns the street was under the control of; the local body. The motion was agreed to 'after some discussion. A letter from Mr J. Coles; asking for a lamp at the corner of Wi'.son's road and .Stephen! "street was Keld"over until the estimates are considered. The Town • Clerk -wus instructed to represent the. {.Council before the Auditor-General, who had been appointed a commissioner to in the dispute as to drainage "rates wffh-'the Drainage Board. .The Works Committee, in their Teport, recommended /that provision should be made in. the estimates for the current year for enlarging the-,caretaker's oo'ttage in Sydenham* Parki r It was unable to recommend the acceptance of anof ithe tenders sent "in for the removal of nightsoil. The report was adc-pted. The tenders were accepted of Messrs PrisJc and Sons, for 750 yds of 2in broken metal, at 4s 9d per yard, and Messrs PitcaitUy and Co., for 750 yds oi lAin metaU at 6s per yard, The Tinane/ Committee's" report (also adopted) showed receipfs £138 18s 4d, and recommended for payment amounts totalling £448 10s 3d. The Committee recommended that £900 of the existing deSosits on tlie special loan -account ba reeposited with, the (bank for twelve months.
