TEMPORARY CITY YARD.

TO THK EDITOK OF TBX PBISS. > lc £}ir,—The vagaries of . the Gbrisfcbnrch CSty 'Council are apparently- limitlessf the lsft«st being the breaking up of the road-way and footpath in Worcester street, near the ,A.:M.P. JBuildings, for the purpose of laying a tram line into a-vacant section there, with the intention-of making it a repository for rubbish carts. It would 'appear thab the section hitherto in use for this purpose—situated opposite the City Council offices—has to be given up. But oar sapient City Fathers, instead of making use of their own Council yards, waste the ratepayers , money by laying down a temporary line, and erecting temporary sheds, etc.,*in a thickly populated portion of the city, a quarter of a mile away from the new tUstrucfcor and Counoil yards. As "one of the occupiers of a suite of offices in- the nieighbourhood of the proposed new rubbish-cart repository, I beg to enter my-protest against : this ill-advised and ill-considtered action on the part ef the City Council- I most emphatically object to "'ther evil-smelling Council carte —either in transit or stationary—beneath my office •window, more especially at -this season of the year. It'need be only pointed cm* that the section 'of land referred to above;is surrounded by such important buildings as those of the A.M.P. and Messrs Fletehery Hqmpihreys and Co., besides' a -shorthalttd scnobl and Government offices, building societo realise the extent of the annoyance, both as to the organs of hearing and '< the- olfactory proposed to be caused to a large number of citizens , . ; I-flwg to suggest to the residents that I they- take the steps necessary to apply to the-Supreme- Court for an* injunction'restraining the City Council from carrying out their wasteful and annoying proposal.— STojirs, etc.j CITIZEN. Christchurch, Ist February, 1902.
