INCARCERATION OF A CONSTABLE
A storm at Woodend (Vie.) was responeible for the incarceration of the local police constable in the lockup ..under his charge I for the night. Constable McKane had ar- ! rested a drunken man, and was assisted by a youth named Taylor to get the prisoner I'and his swag to the lockup. As the tramp was supposed to have money oh him, the constable wished to search him in the presence of a witness," so Taylor -was required to hold the cell door ajar during the search. The wind proved too strong for ,the lad, and the door slammed, locking all three in the cell. They coo-eed again and j again through the night, but as it was [ known that a "drunt" had been "run in" do heed was paid to the noise, further than ', maledictions from Jhe neighbours at the j unseemly dieturbance. Relief came in the morning, about 7 o'clock, when the council's day labourer happened to pass and released the prisoners. .. .
