DUNEDIN, December 21. The probable appointment of LieutenantCoLooel Daviee has been hailed with much I satisfaction here:. It i» recognised that he will be the right man in the right place. APPLICATIONS IFOR ENROLMENT. The work of enrolling the applicants for potitione in the North Canterbury section of the Eighth Contingent is proceeding rapidly.. Quite a large , number of intending recruite were waiting outeide the office of Captain Hobday on Saturday. The majority of these 'bad come in from the country by (foe morning trains. Two !or three Maoris, anxious to enlist, were i J scattered among tibe other candidates. Some of the successful Christchurch. tenderers - for the Eighth Contingent.have received notice of ths cancellation of their tenders pending Ministerial confirmation from Wellington. (FBXSB ASSOCIATION TELEGRAMS.) HAWERA, December 21. Over serehty applications have- been received for thu ten positions in the Eighth Contingent, allocated. to th« Havrera district. There ere five or six returned Contingenterg among them. NEW PLYMOUTH,.December 21. - There are nearly eighty applicants already for the ten places allotted to Tarxnaki in the Eighth Contingent. Not one returned I trooper bbui yfct applied. Among the Tolunteere ie Captain Taunton, Adjutant of the Taranaki battalion. -■-.: WELLINGTON, December 21.
