■ — <m< — ■ , The breaking-op entertainment in connection with toe St. Al btns Free Kindergarten was held in the schoolroom, Knightstown Library, on Friday afternoon. A programme of songs, recitations, marches, wand drill and 1 dumb-bell exerciser by the children, under the direction of Miss Schofield, was given, and an address by the Rev. A. C. Hoggins, who also presented: the Christmas gifts to the children. Cakes and sweets were distributed among the children by Mrs Bendely and the teachers. The forty-first anniversary oi the St. Albans Wesleyan Sunday-school woe celebrated last Sunday. The preachers for the day were the Bern W. G. Parsonson, J. J. North, and J. McKejizie.. The congregations were good, . especially in the evening, when every available seat was occupied. Special hymns were sung by the scholars,, tender the leadership of Mr 0, Simpson. The decorations, Which had been gratuitously carried out by -Mr W. Jones, of the Exeter Nurseries, were greatly admired The income for the day, in- < eluding a special donation of £2 2s from Mr H. Fouvirre, amounted to £19 2s 3d. The anniversary was in every' respect a success. ' ■ , On Thursday last en excursion and picnic, to Little River by <£be Presbyterian congregation of Lincoln and Prebbleton took place. AH parts of the district were well represented, and ah extremely enjoyable and social gathering resulted. After lunch the people scattered to the Hulls and the bush, returarog in the course of the afternoon. Various amueemenite were then indulged in. Mr Nutfc, of the Forsyte Hotel, kindly gave the use of Ida grounds, the Little River racecourse, and this proved an ideal camping spot. One slight accident unfortunately occurred during the day. Mr Dunkley, in the chair. The following officers were elected: —Af aster, Mr Biddle; deputy-master, Mr Maples, secretary, Mr Satraoers; treasurer;' Mr Wraite; auditors, Messrs Parker and H. Baker. A vote of thanks waV.'paeeed to the retiring secretary for bis past services. ' , . At the Star of Harwell Orange lodge on Wednesday, the instaUataoa of officers resulted:— WM. t Bro. T. December 19th at Summer. , ' ■ ( The New Brighton Dramatic Club gave i its second performance on Friday at Hawk- > er's Beach Hall to a small but highly appreciative audience, when "A Naval Engage- * ment" wa* produced. It was announced that the piece would be reproduced next Tuesday night, to enable the large number who were unable to attend on account of the weather, to witness a. most creditable production.
