LOCAL ENROLMENT ARRANGEMENTS.
The local defence authorities notify that all business connected with the Eighth Contingent will be conducted aF the Garrison Library, Drill Shed. The office will be open every day, and for the present Major Hobday, who is in charge, will take the names of applicants between the hours of 10.30 a.m. and 12.30 p.m.
At 10.30 yesterday morning tha office for the enrolment of members of the Contingent was opened, and Wore noon a large number of applications had been made personally and by letter. : A layge proportion of the applicants received by Major Hobday yesterday were put in by farm hands. There 'has not yet been a large number 4 of applications from returned troopers.
A meeting has been convened by Captain D. Cossgrove, to consider the question of.the North Canterbury Mounted Rifles offering their services for South Africa.
