HELPING THE SUFFERERS.
At a public nieeting, presided over by the Mayor (Mr Sansom) at Rangiora, on Friday evening,. at which there was. only a small attendance, it was decided that the councillors and other prominent citizens should form a committee to receive subscriptions for relief of the Cheviot settlers. As there will be no canvass made, those who sympathise with the object are requested to hand in donations or make any other offers of help through the local committee. Mr MY Amy was appointed treasurer.
The relief fund will benefit to the extent of £22 Os 9d by the performance given by Dixs Gaiety Company on Friday night, that being the balance after actual Working expenses had been deducted from the receipts, £56 3s 3d. Advertising in the local Press was allowed free of charge.
