60IAT1C RHEUMATISM CURED AFTER FOURTEEN YEARS OF SUFFERING.
"I have been afflicted with sciatic rheumatism for fourteen years," says Josh Edgar, of Germantown, CaL, U.S.A., "l was able to be around, but constantly suffered. I tried everything I could hear of and at last was told to try Chamberlain's Pain Balm, which I did and was immediately relieved and in a short time cured, and I am happy to* aay it has not since -jjaturned.'' Why not use this liniment and get well? It is for sale by all dealers. Price ls. 6d and 3s.
jy shaken, a great many thing* had been br_ken to atoms, the piano and other heavy articles had been moved, but the wanuowa were not broken.
"Directly the big shock was over we went to the township and found M'Kenzie in a terrible state. It had evidently suffered far more than we had at Mr Winskill's. I went to my father's house to see if they were all* right there, and found it a wreck inside. The building had plastered walls, and all the plaster was down, wh?.e everything breakaole in the place was broken. We found everything in a sad state in the town, and tfie people much alarmed, and concluding that we had been fortunate in escaping so lightly as compared with what the people ia the township had experienced, went home.
"We all lay on our beda that night (and every nis&t since, in fact) with our clothes on, out did not get moon g.tep, especiaJy as the tremors continued. We were ready to jump out at a ipoment's notice. We grew more nervous and frightened at the smaller shocks than we had been at the first big one, and the strain at last became to awful we could not stand it any longer. I have only had my clothes oif one night since the Saturday when the disturbance commenced, and am so unstrung -iait the slightest thing makes mc jump. This is the experience of all the women who have gone through the past few days at Cheviot, though, of course, some are worse sufferers than others.
"One neighbour, a Mrs Da-ton, waa engaged a* mi-ring when the first earthquake occurred. She was near a creek at the time, and saw the water shoot up several feet in the air. She fled bo Mrs Winskill's, and was so alarmed that she stayed wfth us all night; she really could not go back to her own house. Ib is utter nonsense for people to pooh-pooh the matter in any way. The accounts that I have read in the newspapers have not been exaggerated, at all, for, apart from the great dam—ge done, no one can possibly tell what we have suffered. I think myself that 'there will be real distress in several cases, for some people have nractioally no home at all now, and I don't know what they wi.l do without assistance."
'Miss Archer -hen gave our representative a graphic description of some incidents already recorded, and, continuing, said: —"We were an odd gathering at the post office early this morning. The chimney tlwre had been re-erected, and we all gathered to bake scones and cakes. My father and two elder brothers remain at Cheviot, but I had to come away. lam going to GerakKne on Monday, and shall take a rest ti„ the New Yeaf. I feel I could nob face jt again. I think many more women and _lildtien wiE probably come down, especJaHv if the shocks continue. You can scarcely understand how the suspense and continued recurrence of the tremors upset one. The men are sticking to their -postsi w_l, but I thiuk some of tiftem are getting a little bit frightened now—or at any rate unnerved—and lio not -wonder at it."
