WAIMATE WATER SUPPLY.

At tbe Waimate Borough Council meeting on Monday, a letter was received from Dr. Symes, Chief Health Officer, enclosing a communication from an engineering finin regard to engines and rams for prmnpyig the water from the Waihao river into reservoirs 240 feet up on the hills, behind the town. Dr. Symes does not favour the proposed source of supply—Keley's bush--. on account of the stream running through the bush, and thus accumulating vegetable matter.

The Council went fully into the matter, but as tbey did not know the limits of their borrowing powers, they could not do anything definite. It was mentioned that Raugiora had dropped its water supply scheme on account of inability to borrow sufficient money, and it was decided to ascertain the, full particulars from the Ranciora Borough Council before proceeding further, and consensus of opinion was. in favour of Keley's bush scheme.
