ASHBURTON COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Ashburton County Council met on Friday, when there were present—Messrs C. J. Harper (chairman), J. Lnmbie, x... A. iL Buckley, J. Johnston, Morgan, and Stitt. The chairman stated tha.t a. surey ot the a.teration of Winterslow track had been j>ut in hand, on account of the Chief Surveyor objecting to make any progress payments until this was done ; the accounts lor the i six months ending September iOth had been ' duly audited, a.;.d tlie balance-sheets forwarded to the Auditor-General. Mr J. Studhojn?, jnn., waited on the Council m regard to the proposed Co.dstream water supply. He enquired what rate the Council inttLded to charge the ratepayers. It was resoived that the Council undertake the en argement of the sub-main, the cost not to exceeo ±;200, to provide additional water not exceeding in the aggregate for twenty mi.es of new races for the Kaling and Coidstream districvt ; and that the settlers interested pay the cost of new races through their Jands, fords, crossings,, and connections with present races, and the usual annual water rate. Correspondence was received from the Stock Inspector requesting the Council to take steps to destroy rabbits in county plantations. It was decided to trim the trees in order that the rabbits could be brought within means of access, and. to lay poisun for the same. Mr MeLaoh-an, M.8.X.. wrote in regard to the Government gnt.it for Ruapnna head works. After the contents had been discussed, it was resolved that the Govemanent be requested w> alter the conditions and contribute £1000 on condition the Council provide £2000. Mr Buckley reported on behalf of the committee appointed to vi«it the- Hinds Domain, aad it was resolved to vofce £10 for necessary improvements. The Auditor-General, having written in regard to tne town clock, it was resolved that a copy of the letter be forwatded to each member of the Council, and that in the meantime all correspondence lie on the table.
