THE FEDERAL TARIFF.

THE QUESTION OF RETALIATION United Press Association—By Eleotric Telegraph—Copyright (Received October 27th, 5.5 p.m.)

SYDNEY. October 27.

The "Sunday Times" says the determination of the New Zealand Chambers of Commerce to oppose retaliation is amusing, and asks whether the colony wishes to preserve its dignity or its business. If New Zealand wants to do business with the Commonwealth, she must either federate or retaliate. Failing to federate, if she wants business she must retaliate all she knows how. The "Sunday Times'' doubts whether New Zealand can get reciprocity without retaliation or threats of retaliation.
