NOTES AND MEMORANDA.
The third annual session of the eighteenth* Synod of tha Diocese ot Christchurch opens to-day. On Wednesday, from 11 a.m. till noon, the customary-devotional gathering of the clergy will be-.held in the Cathedral, and this year Bishop Julius especially invites the attendance of lav readers as well as the clergy. The !number. of seats neserved for' the gymnastic carnival, which is to be held in-the'Canterbury Hall on Thursday next, is the. largest Mr Tankard - has had at any of his carnivals. Much interest is being taken in the performance. Entrance to the two shilling scats down stairs will be by the side door, near the stage tntrance, school" tickets by the left front entrance, and pit tidbets, by "the right front entrance. The jubilee of the Xodge of Unanimity No. 3, New Ze'alaEd.Constitution, will be- celebrated at the lodge-room to-morrow evening. - After reminiscences by several officers and members an adjournment will- be made to the - Oddfellows' Hall,', where' a' banquet will be held. ..It is' expected that there . will be a-large gathering of* brethren'-'of I the oraft-on the\oceasionui- v - - 1 ■■» »'•* z° A oonference-'of'butchers with' the Committee appointed by - the Woolston * Borough Council, re the establishment of abattoirs within the-borough, will-be held at-.the Temperance Hall,.- Gloucester street, on Thursday, at. 8.p1m.,.- . . .; *-. Qtristr church Motett Society, held last evening, it was-decided to hold* the next subscription concert" on' Tuesday/ November sth, in the CnatSrbury Hall. \ Stanford's "Te Deum." which was performed on Jubilee-Day, will be the principal attraction, supplemented by .orchestral selections and voc:vl soios, • . A number' of illustrations of the Orient ready-made clothing,' which is a speciality of the firm, a re, also given. \ The, Civil Service Rifles' concert" takes place to-morrow night, at the Theatre Royal, and-'should-'prove &*great success.
