WELLINGTON, October 2L The first annual dinner of .the First New Zealand Mounted Rifle Association was held to-night, the evening being the second anniversary of the departure of the First Contingent .from, the colony for South Africa, Tthere was -a fine muster of members. Representatives were.. present from points as far apart as Auckland and Invercargill. The Premier was amongst those in attendance, and, in the course of a speech, said he thought, the colony had ceased sending contingent away' too 1 soon. He had thought so ever since the last contingent took its departure. The proceedings were very hearty, throughout. During the evening Mr Seddlon said he had written to the Colonial Office asking that Lord'Ranfurly's term of office as Governor might be extended.
