SYD ENHAM'S MUNICIPAL BUILDINGS.

THE QUESTION OF A SITE.

At la*t night's meeting of the Sydenham Rorongli Council. Cr. Bowden moved, in accordance \rith notice given, that the resolution to place the municipal buildings on the site purchased: on the Fouth side of the Sydenham Park bo rescinded. It was necesymy, he said, that the municipal offices should be more central, and that provision should b? made for a site for a future Town Hall, Public Library, and other buildings. He did not think thie Council had been sincere in passing the motion at last meeting. Gr. Forrtfter strongly supported adhering to the site that was purchased for the purpOM». CV. McJJppfom held that the proper place for the buildings was at the corner of Brougham street and Colombo street. CV. Johnston supported rewinding the motion, contending that the Park corner was the proper site. He was still of the opinion thai the -whole of the municipal buil dings uhotild bt together. Cr. Jone« said he had aWays supported placing the whole of the buildings on that portion of the Park fronting Brougham street. Cr. Clifford said he should vote as he had done before to place the buildings on the site pumhawed for them, and nob on the Park. Cr. Sim said he had not come across a single ratepayer who was in favour of having the municipal buildings in a corner of-the Park. It appeared to be the view of those desiring to rescind the motion to put the building in v corner of the Park; if there vrun a chance of placing the officea in the old Council yard, he would support the motion, but.^ under the circumstances he would not. Cr. Miller expressed a wish for finality, bub *M#<i he had not made his mind up on the question. Cr. Huliield opposed the buildings beini? placed on the Park. Hβ waa sure that the Government would never consent to a portion of the Park being taken. A division was token on the motion to rescind. Crs. Johnson, McMeekan, Hadfield, Miller, Jones and Bowden and the Mayor voting for it, and Ors. Sim, Clifford, Taylor, Webb, and Forrester against. . The motion was declared carried. Cr. Forrester then gave notice to move, at next meeting, that the resolution carried on October 14th, rescinding the resolution dealing with the question of placing the municipal buildmgp on the section situated on the couth side of the Park, be rescinded.
