The Wakanui returned from the South, at 6.25 a.m. yesterday. The To Anau. from Auckland, via the East coast, arrived at 7.20 a.m. yesterday, and left for Dunedin at 1.23 p.m. The Maori arrived from London, via Wellington, at 8.40 a.m. The Poherua left for Westport at 1 p.m. The Cunard Company will shortly make an attempt with one of its new steamers to lower the record for crossing the Atlantic which was secured lately by one of the German steamers. Reports regarding the stranded steamer Jane Uouglas are not of a hopeful nature. It is stated that the proprietor has abandoned her, but that th» captain is still attempting to clear the vessel. The Kumara left for Timaru at 5 p.m. yesterday. The "Wihangape leaves for Timaru and Dunedin to-day. The Vvakatu left Wellington at 5.30 p.m. on September 30th, called at Kekerangu, Kaikoura, and Port Robinson, and. arrived at Lyttelton at 2.40 p.m. yesterday. She leaves on a return voyage to-night. The Lily, from Greymouth, and the Amelia Sims, from Waitapu, arrived last night.
