AFTERNOON SITTING. The Legislative Council met at 2.30 o'clock. CX)UPONS IX TEA PACKETS. The recommendation of the Public Petitions. Committee ■ that the . Government should favourably consider the petition of the Wellington and Ohristchurch grocers in favour of prohibiting the insertion of ooupons in tea packets was agreed to on> the voices. LAND ASSURANCE FOND. ' Colonel PITT moved for a return showing the mpney to ths credit of the Land Assurance Fund Account under the Land Transfer Act, and showing how the accumulations of the fund should be disposed -of. Hβ stated that there had been a few claims for errors in the administration of the Act against the Assurance Fund, the money from which had been appropriated to colonial purposes, and as the land dealt with was taxed to support the fund, the tax should be reduced. Mr C. W. WALKER, admitted the question was a pertinent one. The return was agreed to. PROGRESS OF BILLS. The Smoking by Youths Prohibition Bill, and the Law Amendment Bill, were read a third time and passed. The Counties Act Amendment Bill passed through Committee without amendment, was read a third time, and passed . - A BILL KILLED. A discussion in Committee on the Statutes Compilation Bill turned on the. issue of compilation versus consolidation. Eventually a motion by Mr BOWEN, that the Chairman leave the chair,,was carried by .15 votes to 13j the Bill tlius being killed. ". SHOPS AND APPRENTICES BILL. Colonel PUT movad the committal of the Shops and -Offices Bill providing . for the i clewing tvf cHtinists , ; and at other Hours. '• ' Mr.SHRIMb'KI said he opposed the Bill in the intereste-of humandty, and moved: that the Bill be committed this day three months. Mr W. C. WALKKR .thought, .medical practitioners and chemists should arrive, at a mutual arrangement, and a, rota' should bs madt by whioh chemists could .take their turn in being open on Sundays and holidays. JUr .SHRIMbKI'S aniendmcnt;was negatived by 24 votes to 11, and the Bill passed through Committee. . ■ .' . RABBIT NUISANCE. The Rabbit Nuisance Act Amendment Bill was read a second time, pro forma. i . The Council rose at 4.50 p.m.
