GERALDINE BRANCH.
■ A well attended meeting of the Geraldine Branch of the Farmers' Union was held yesterday, after the live stock sale. Mr \V. S. Maslin. secretary, explained what had been done since last meeting; and he also pointed oat the good already resu'.ting -from the union of farmers, by their being in a position to bring under the notice of the Government matters affecting the interests of the farming community. The business of the meeting was to elect a delegate to attend the conference to be held in Ashburton on tie Bth and 9ih inst.. when a platform for Canterbury witl bs adopted, and rules and regulations drawn up. Mr Denniston pro-posed that Mr Maslin be elected representative, as Geraldine had a first claim on his services. Mr Mnslin regretted having to decline, as he had already been appointed to representar.other part of the district, and he proposed Mr A. Metcalf as delegate. The latter was unanimously elected. The delegate was instructed to draw attention to the railway charges on small iots of produce, which were considered an injnstice to the -small farmer. The following were elected a committee for the Geraldine . Branoh : — Messrs A. Metcalfe, M. C. Orbeil. D. McLeod, W. Shieis, and \7. S. AiasiinMORVEN. A meeting of the Morven Branch of the New Zea'and Farmers , Union was held on Tuesday evening. Mr J. Corrigan was voted to the'chair. He detailed what had been done previous to that -meeting. Mr E. Reilly, canvasser for the Waimate Branch, was present, and briefly addressed tlt-e meeting. He regretted that a "branch had been found at Morven, as the Wairaate Bnuioh. could have , controlled, thte. whole district much better. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President.'Mr W. Beer; vice-presi-dent, ,Mr J. Corrigan; secretary, Mr D. Kennedy ; treasurer* Mr G. Sides; committee, Messrs M. Cooney, Arnett, E. Crowe, J. Campbell, J. MeTaggart, B. Smith, T. Huston, J. Cooney, and J. Hanley, with power to add four to their number. The Chairman stated that 32 members had paid their subscriptions. It was decided to hold a meeting on Friday evening to elect a delegate to the provincial conference; if pufficient members are enrolled before then. jus: Glass will be present at the meeting. A vote of thanks to th'e Chairman terminated the meeting.
