CRUELTY TO A HORSE.
A DEFENDANT FINED.
■ 'Another case. of horse cruelty, of a •particularly aggravated character, came before Mr H.* W Bishop, S.M., at two o'clock yesterday, when a man named DaVid W*_t was charged with cruelly ill-treating a horse by driving it whilst it was suffering from sore shoulders. The mni'e, which was standing outside ' the Courthouse, was in a very sorry condition ; its shoulders were raw from the continual chafing of ' the collar, - and the backs of its thighs were also covered with sores. Further, the animal was heavy with foal. The defendant .pleaded "Guilty," 'and stated thSa-tthe horse was not his. It belonged to a,milkman named McGregor, and he. had been driving it from Bromley to have it attended to. ' '- Mr Bishop: "McGregor ought to.be ashamed of himself for having a horse in that condition, and you ought to be ashamed of yourself for dsiving it. It is a mcxtft disgraceful thing that you or'anybody else should attempt to work a horse in that condition. There was no question about its ,condition; , the' horse outside looks simply a mass of aores, and yon must have been aware of tha fact. I fine you. £5 and costs ; in default, one month's imprisonment with hard labour. The Accused: Blow long "will you give mc to pay the fine? The Magistrate;. X will give you no time, - The accused was then removed from the Court in custody of a constable.
