WEST COAST NOTES.

(SPECIAL TO "THE PBESS.") GREYMOUTH, September SO, The Ahaura River Company's dredge worked lee hours, and was in the early part of the week hampered by a rise in the river. The yield of 19oz 7dwt 10gr is therefore &s much as could be exported under such circumstances.

The Marsden INo. 1 Company's dredge is meetmg with difficulties incidental to dredging. After getting down to a depth of 19ft she came across ''» batch of timber" that conld not bo dealt with. After running for a considerable time the dredgemaster decided to shift_the machine further up stream, where it is nqped better suooesa -will attend her operations.

A meeting of the shareholders in the Grey River Consolidated Company is to be held at Abaura to-night, to consider the present working, some holding that with such goocl ground and facilities much better returns should be got. The opinion is that the dredge is not working Up to nearly her full capacity, nor to the best advantage. The Ford's Creek Company's ehredge only worked for about' half the week, owing to the high river. The result, therefore, shows that the ground is improving. The Greenstone Three " Mil* Company's dsedge did not wash up. She will be' on the old run this week, tha silt having now been got rid of. A. circular has been issued to the shareholders <in the Hokitikn. Biver Company which states that there is a shortage of £1500, which amount must be raised in order to pay amounts due. The report concludes that if the debentures are not taken qp by the shareholders or the publio there will be no alternativ* but' for the Company to go into liquidation, which at this juncture of affairs, just on >he eve of commencing operations, would be most unfortunate, especially, as the directors believe the Company possesa a most valuable property, and one which, would soon become a dividend-paying concern once the dredge is fairly started. _ /■ ' DUSrSDINi, September 30The master of the Ahaura River Company's" dredge reports that the river was flooded during last week, ; and that ho had some difficulty in keeping: "the paddock open.
