(Received September 30th, 10.45 p.m.) LONDON, September 30. Colonel Brnce Hamilton reports that 1500 Boers, commanded by Louis Botha .and Grobelaar, attacked. Forts Itala and Prospect. Nineteen, of the enemy were killed,' including two commandants, and a number were wounded. Tile Boers retired north; east. ' ; Lord Milner has directed that the property of the (burghers still in the field be disposed of to maintain their .families., The Boers attacked the Basutos on the 24th,. Severe fighting ensued, and three Bo«rs were killed. The Basutos retired.Lora Kitchener! replying to Schalk Burger's letter expressing a desire ior peace, explained that Great Britain cannot abandon the annexation of tire ex-Be-publios without breaking faith, -witih the loyalists. He added: that regarding the Cape rebe> and traitors, the prerogative of clemency must be exercised at the unfettered discretion -of the Government. The farms near all the principal Transvaal garrisons are to ba managed; by two Australia and Cambridgeshire farmers, to supply sufficient-green fodder and vegetables for local forces.
