FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
TO THF, EDITOR OF THE PBESS. Kir, —I observe your Dunedin corresponele.nt telegraphs yon thtat be has good authority fe.r stating that "the, reesent count of sheep in New Zealand shows a laree increase? fe>r the year," and he ce.nsiders this a complete answer to the pessimists who foretold that the freezing industry would result in bringing down our flex'ks. No pessimist, so far as I am aware, has gone beyond asserting that we oould not keep up tbe export of last year, amounting to 3,797,132 carcases, including legs—vide Messrs Dalgety and Co.'s gumma.y for year ending June, 1900. If your correspondent wdl com, pare the same Company's summary for year ending June, 1901. he will find the total export wa* only 3,138,642 —a. shrinkage of 658,490 carcases—including legs— which ftdly bears out tho opinion that we could not continue exporting at the rate we did last year. As your correspe.ndemt has been able to obtain the information he telegra.ph.etl I am surprised the Stock Department has not published an approximate statement of the statistics for the year.— Yours, etc., GERALDINE.
