CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The Charitable Aid Board met yesterday afternoon.
The Hospital Board Avrote suggesting united action in approaching the Government Avith a A-iew to the proA-ision of proper accommodation for chronic incurable cases ; also suggesting a conference betAveen the two Boards. The Chairman expressed the opinion that such an institution should be a State one rather than one tinder the control of local bodies. Mr Sorensen agreed that a State institution we.uld ensure uniformity of management, but lie doubted if the Government would be found a. iCliiig to establish such an institution. Mr Manhire proposed that the Chairman and Mr Westenra be apjx.int ed to confer with the Hospital Board on the matter. Mr Wolfe thought if the Government, would not provide a separate institution the Hospital Avas the proper place for incurable cases. Mr Harper said that thay had several incurables in the Ashburbun Home, but there were no conveniences for their treatment. Mr Smith considered that if the Hospital took such cases in there would be no room for ordinary patients. Any steps taken should be in the direction of the establishment of a colonial institution. The motion av-8 agreed to with the addition of the instruction that the Board's delegates should urge on the Conference the necessity for the GoA'ernm-_nt providing special institutions for these cases.

The Institutions Committee reported: — In reference to certain sugg-stions offered by the Board's medical officer as to nursing at the Memorial Home, your Committee Ls of opinion that the present staff is sufficient to cope with the ordinary requirements of the institution as a home for aged poor. Tlie matron and the nurse have qualified, both by experience and examination, tri treat ordinary cases of senile complaint*; amd whenever occasion requires the patients are entitled to obtain the benefit of special treatment in the .Hospital.
