THE BYE-ELECTION.
The election' for the return of a member to represent the City of Christchurch jn the place of Mr 0. Lewis, resigned, is to take place on the 18th inst. The writ for the election will arrive by to-day's Wellington mail, *and the official notification of the election 'will;-appear is Monday's papers. " It is understood that the Licensed Victuallers' Association do riot intend to take uj> specially any of the candidates for-the byeeiection, and that thfc members of the trade will hu free liinces in respect to their votes. The following alteration of Mr A. Ef. Turnbull's meetings ba« been made:—On Monday, July Bth, Mr Turnbull will speak at the Waltham Schoolhoiise, and! on Wednesday, July 17th, he will address the electors at tha Sydenham Druids' Hall. Mr (.*. J. Smith met a number of his friends and , supporters at the' Methodist Schoolroom, Richmond, last evening. At the conclusion of his address a vote of thanks was passed to Mr Smith, and promises of support were given. Mr Smith will address tie'electors at Richmond on Monday night, at the Foresters' Hall, Vogel street. Mr Charles; Taylor will address the electors at the Druids' Hall, Colombo street, Sydenham, on Monday night.
