The chair was occupied by his Grace the Duke of Northumberland, K.G-. TEe annual " report stated that new lifeboat stations had been established during the year at Sunderland, Buckhaven (Fifeahire), and Helviok Head (ihingarvan Bay), and new lifeboats of the type best adapted for the special .localities for which they had been built had been placed at fourteen other stations. The institution's fleet of lifeboats on the coast at the end of 1900 numbered , . 286, including all types, whe- : ther. steam, sailing, or pulling: lifeboats. The institution's boats also landed 43 persons who were on vessels in perilous positions.
