- • fl DRUNKENNESS. ■y Mary McKegney, an old offender, charged tt- with tlie above- oSence, was discharged upon condition that she left the town forthwith. A male first offender was fined ss. VAGRANCY. Lily Baker, who according to the police *■ was in the habit of wandering about the town at all hours in a stupid and aimless way, and of associating with indifferent characters, appeared yesterday upon a • charge of vagrancy. The, girl had been at the Samaritan Home,, but was continually _ wanting to leave, and on that account unsettled tho other""lnmates. Mr Smail said that the girl was mentally-weak and ob-sti--9 nate, but he would be prepared to take her ' back to the Home if s}ie would stay there. The girl stated that she coijld not remain "in the Home as she could not be left alone by the other inmates. She had a mother in r0 the Thames district, and would return" to her if she could obtain her passage money. The Bench, Messrs Neave and O'Connor, J.P.s, convicted the girl, and sentencedjher to a week's imprisonment, the warrant to be suspended if the girl remained in the Samaritan Home for three months. The _ girl elected to take the week's imprisonment. ASSAULTING A CONSTABLE. On April 4th, at Addington, a young man iL nmed John Ashley Cowper was alleged to have kicked Constable Ryan while the latter was endeavouring to/ disiperse a crowd of __. ■ men who were seeking admission to an hotel at Addington after hours. The constable was about to arrest one of the men when Cowper kicked him. The Bench fined the accused £2 and costs, in default seven days' imprisonment.. ~ ' A-^ILLATION. Walter Guy, who was alleged to ba about to leave the" colony without making provision for the future maintenance of hi_ nnborn illegitimate child, was rem-aided till -.a Tuesday neit. Bail was allowed, accused in """ £10, and one surety in £10. en ______———
