PIGEON FLYING.
Ths Christchurch Homing Pigeon Society v flew off-a single bird race from Waimate - last Saturday. Ths birds were liberated at ' intervals of ten minutes. Eleven birds were sent to compete. Owing to the strong . head wind the velocities were low. The winner, Mr F. Wilson's Waimate, flew the - distance, 116 miles 1656 yards, in 4 hours* . 2min. The following are the velocities ,* mode:—F. Wilson's Waimate, 849 yards J' per minute; A. Stewart's Good Mealy, 82S; G. Perrot's Redwood. 824; F. Un- - win's Seocliff, 783 f F. ButTerfield's Jack ■Tar, 768; W. Sinton'a Topsail, 730; E. Smith's JDandy, 717; A. Anderson's Defiance, 633; F. King-ford's Dash, 537. Birds balonging to F. Bull and 9* Cooper Mso i) competed.
