Their Royal Highnejsta the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall end York wero supposed to be resting to-day, but all the came they managed to crowd a' good deal into the daily round. Owing to the long spell of tret weather the rail-way trio to the Wairarapa district was wisely abandoned, a«d a trip to Petone planned in its stead. Their Royal ; Highnesses made a tour of inspection of the Wellington woollen Company's Mills, the Clear Company's Works, and the Railway ' Workshops. Ths visit was not made in ; State, and the party was confined to a few besides the suite. There were included his ! Excellency the Governor, the Premier, the j Minister for Railways (Sir J. Ward) Hon. j C. H. Mills (Minister for Customs), Mr T. Wilford, M.H.R. ior Wellington and Suburbs, Mr T. E. Donne, Tourist Commissioner, and Mr T. Ronayne, Genejal Manager for Railways. The Thomdon Railway Station had been very prettily decorated, and a large crowd had gathered to see the Royal party take their departure. The ' engine of the Royal train, too,.had bsen appropriately adorned, on the front being the Prince of Wales's feathsrs. Before leaving the Woolkn Factory hi* Royal Highness expressed the pleasure with which the Duchess and himself had witnessed the interesting processes carrisd on in the. xniW, which it would appear is the first they had seen. The Duehes* was presented by the Chairman of Directors with a handsome travelling nig, gpjcially made in the mill, and with her arms worked upon it, a gift with which she seemed pleased. As tne Royal party left"th* building Miss Annie Taylor, the yonngeit girl employed in the mill, presented her Koyr.l Highness, on behalf of the employees, with a beautiful bouquet of white' flowers, and amid a renewed outburst of cheering the Royal party drove through the : streets to the Gear Company's Works. The inhabitants of the town had turned out in lar-re numbers to sse their distinguished visitors, and gave them a hearty welcome. They were conducted over the works by Mr W. H. Millward' ■ secretary of the Gear Company, and not only went. through the freezing i chambers, but tasted the preserved meat I which is manufactured at the works. The j employees assembled and gave them three ; hearty cheer?. At the Railway Worktops the hands were drawn up at the entrance, and gave the Rojal vi*kors a hearty welcome. Mr Gibson, foreman of works, was presented to their Koyal Highnesses, who I then inspected the complicated machinery ! with great interest. fc'wgaant F. Neale, ! While lin South Africa he did some campaigning , with one of the Princes of Teck, a brother Jof her Royal Highness, to' whom, at a time of great danger, he was of great service. In the afternoon there was an aquatic carnival, a. feature of which was a submarine explosion on a somewhat large scale. The Duchess drove out to the Wellington Hospital in company with the Counted Off Ranfurly and two members of the suite, and the Duke visited the Ohiro Benevolent Home. THIRD STATE DINNER.
