' Lieutenant-Colonel Haig is driving Kruitzinger towards the Orange river, and has captured fifty of the enemy. Details of the court-martial and shooting of surrenderers at Pretoria show that six armed Boers who had sworn" neutrality attempted to escape. They fired at and wounded, a sentry when challenged, and then escaped. Three, however, were. recaptured, tried, and the death sentence pas-sad. It was remitted in the case of one, a ycuth, bet the others were shot. This stern measure was considered imperative, o.vihg to surrenderers disregarding their obligations.
Sergt. Firth, of the West Ridin-* Begiment, has been awarded the Victoria Cross for conspicuous gallantry at Arundel.
It is officialy reported that during ths fighting at Pienaar's river on the Ist and 2nd inst., «tev?n of Kitchener's Fighting .Scouts were killed, and eighteen wounded.
Colonel. Colcnbrarder, at Nylstroom, kitf-ed five' and captured 100 Boers>.
The Commission which has bsen enquiring into the concessions granted by the Transvaal Government, recommends cancelling the Netherlaiwte Company's concession. The Commissioners assert that the debenture-holders are alone 'entitled to favourable consideration. The Commission holds that the dynamite monopoly is bad in law, and states that it must ■be aif.owed to lapse. PETITION FROM BOER PRISONERS. {Received June 14th, 12.18 a.m.) LONDON, June ,13 A thousand Boer prisoners at Bellevue camp have petitioned Steyn, Schalk Burger, Botha, and Dβ Wet to cease the struggle, on the ground that it is plunging the petitioners' families and country into deeper distress. DEATHB OF NEW ZEAL A'NDERS. L. Matthews died of enteric at Capetown, and James Young of pneumonia at Worcester. Both were New Zealand" Rough Riders. :
