PRESSION.

In the Senate a petition was presented from Tasmania in favour of the suppression of Tattersall's sweeps. Senator J. H. Keating (Tasmania) said that if the sweeps were driven out of Tasmania tbey would probably go to New Zealand or Hong Kong. The Poet and Telegraph Bill has been introduced into the House. The debate chiefly dealt with the questions of sweeps, against which the Bill proposes to close the post office.
