» AUCKLAND. June 13. A fire occurred at the 4 ehop of Lauds, pork butcher, Queen street, this evening, owing to a gae jet swinging against the wall. About £200 damage was done, ftie insurances were—€4oo on the building and £300 on the stock in the New Zealand Office. The printing machinists' dispute, in which forty-four hours per week" and a minimum wage of £3 ss, was claimed by the Union, was before the Conciliation fioard to-day, but was adjourned' until the 24th inst.
PALMERSTON NORTH, June 13. At the District. Court Charles Moore for obstructing and assaulting the police, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment and ordered to pay £20 towards the costs of the prosecution.
WANGANUI, June 13. At the Supreme Court the jury in the arson case retired at 12.30 o'clock to consider their verdict. The case of attempted murder against Shanahan is now proceeding.
NEW PLYMOUTH, June 13. At the adjourned meeting of the Licensing Bench this morning the Magistrate postponed his decision upon new license applications sine die, and also adjourned the renewal applications pending a personal inspection of the premises. .
