NOTES AND MEMORANDA.

The Kaiapoi Mothers' Union on Wednesday despatched a box of nightingales, socks, etc., to Nurse A. Hiatt, of the JVlooi River Camp, Soutih Africa. A meeting of former scholars of the Normal school will be held at the school this evening, to consider the question of providing a school flag. The annual meeting of the ratepayers of the Heathcote Road Board district will be held at the office, Ferry road, tonight, at 7.30. As will be seen by a notification elsewhere, tenders are invited for the erection of a residence at Greymouth. Plans and specifications are to be seen at the office of Messrs Jameson Bros., builders, and tenders close at 7 p.m. on June 24th, The subscription concert in connection with the Motett Society will take place at the Canterbury Hall to-night. The programme will be mainly orchestral, the vocal items being given by Miss Alice Gray and Mr H. M. Reeves. Some part songs will also be given by the members of the society. The Gbristchurch Prohibition League will hold a social this evening in. the Metaphysical Club room. A good programme has been arranged, and supper will be provided. As will be seen by a notification elsewhere, by arrangement with the Executive of the Employers' Association, all members of the Association are held covered by the Ocean Accident and Guarantee Corporation for their liability under the Workers' Compensation Act, pending arrangements as to rates. The first meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Indoietrial' Association in their new rooms in the Canterbury Hall will be held to-night. . Mr Henry Hughes, patent agent and consulting engineer, has secured the services of Mr P. M. Newton, a registered patent agent of twelve years' experience, ac manager of his Christchurch branch office, while Mr Hughes is at the head office in Wellington. !Mr Hughes is now sole proprietor of the business, the firm of Hughes, Rayward and Baldwin having been dissolved. All the records of the late firm are retained by Mr Hughes.
