From 1880 to 1885 he was M.P. for Suffolk, since when he has continuously represented Ecclesall in the House of Commons. Prom 1885 to 1892 he was Civil Lord of the Admiralty. In 1897 he published ths book entitled, "The Battlefields of Thessaly."]
