At the wool sales, Mesrrs Buxton and Ronald, Balme and Co., and Jacomb and Son offered 12,071 bales of a medium selection. There was a large, attendance, and competition was strong for fine merinos, Continental buyers taking the bulk. Prices" were on a par with the closing rates of the March sa.hs. There was fair competition for fine crossbreds, prices remaining unchanged. Low class crossbreds declined 7£ per cent,, Yorkshire manufacturers taking the bulk. The total quantity of wheat and flour afloat for the United Kingdom is 3,700,000 quarters, and for the Continent 1,600,000 quarters. Shares are unchanged. At the tallow sales 1775 casks were offered, and 1125 sold. Prices for all kinds were unchanged.

The National Mortgage and Agency Company have received the following cable from their London ofiice: —"The wool sales opened firm for merino of all descriptions, also fine crossbred. For medium, crossbreds and coarse descriptions there is an average decline of I_\ per cent." The New Zealand Farmers' Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Limited, is in receipt of the following cable message from its London office under date 30th April: — "Wheat—The market is steady with a fair enquiry, long berried 29s 6d"for 4961b ex store. Butter—Prime factory 102s per cwt. ex store. Cheese—Prime factory 58s per cwt. ex store. Frozen meat—Prime Canterbury lambs 5 5-16thd per lb; market is falling. Wool—Tbe sales have opened, and as compared with closing rales of last series merinos and fine crossbreds remain at par, but coarse crossbreds show 5 per cent, decline."
