Coast—the invest .merit of English capital in dredging areas between Hokitika and Ross— is reported. According to the information received by a Christchurch gentleman interested in these areas, n ei.ble message was received in Wollingtoa yesterday from the attorney of tho syndicate in London, fo the effect that the successful flotation of the Tastnnn Golden Gravels Dredging Areas is practically assured. Tho areas in question aro situated on the old bed of the Hokitika river, between the towns of Hokitika und ltos*. There ate 10 claims of RO acre, each, all of which have been bored, with excellent, results. This will involve the investment of between -.SO.OOO and £VKi,OOO oi English capital. A Christchurch syndicate has been formed, with a capital of £1500, to place on the London market similar areas, adjoining the Tasniim Golden Gravels, and called the Hokitika River Golden Gravels Syndicate. Mr A. E. Rir.g nnd others have the matter in hand. Ono boro has already been sunk, with a. result of 6 grains to the cubic yard, and it is intended to thoroughly prospect each area before finally forwarding particulars to London. Nelson Creeks, Pactolus, Buller Junctions, New Rivers, and Maori Queoii3 are being asked after. The Leviathan Company's dredgo is working admirably, and is going through an immense quantity of material. The claim will surely now got a fair trial. It will, however, take at least a fortuight to get on to soiid ground. The pontoons for the Shellback Company's dredgo havo been commenced, and a dam sito -.elected. The Keystone Boring Syndicate havo bottomed the Rerfton United Company's claim, near Ross. The prospects are poor, and another boro is to be put down in the middle of the claim. The Keep-it-Dark Gold Mining Company has declared its hundred and twenty-seventh dividend. The gold export from Greymouth last month was 30120z, valued at £12,018. The average for Const dredges last month was 2_oz sdwts per dredge per week for working time. (PRESS ASSOCIATION - TELEGRAM.) GREYMOUTH May 2. Tho Leviathan Company's dredge started work again to-day. Now that the ladder has boon lengthened she expects to be able to dredgo on tho bottom on any part of the claim, and got good returns henceforth.
