(SPECIAL TO "THE FSES3.") GREYMOUTH, April 16. Claughesey's Freehold, on Nelson Creek, is to bo thoroughly prospected by shaft sinking. This mode is more certain than boring, especially so on creek 3. Information is now to hand that instructions have been issued to have the Ford's Creek dredge ladder lengthoned. The directors of the Maori Queen Company visited the dredge yesterday, and had a formal opening. They are much satisfied with the prospects seen. The gold is heavy and easi.y savad. The tables are looking well. Messrs Patterson aud party, who are working the terraces in the Nine. Mile Creek, struck a rich wash. Some £1500 has been spent bringing in water, but not sufficient to work the ground on a large scale for the purpose of thoroughly developing the property. An option has boen placed with Mr P. C. Thompson, on behalf of a Christchurch syndicate, in order to find £3000 to carry out ihe works necessary. Mr Shury states that the capital mentioned above will bring in fifteen Government heads of water. After the option was placed the owners decided to drivo in order to prove the ground, ar.d after threo sets had been finished they struck wash 12ft deep that yields loz to the load.
