Eighteen wheelexs were responsible for the recent stoppage at Stockton Colliery. They preferred a, week in prison to fines. BODY OF A WOMAN ACCIDENTALLY CREMATED. The fire near Oirange destroyed a house containing the body oi Mrs Ivers. Three daughters were badly scorched in their attempts to subdue the flames, and, despite their efforts, the remains were almost cremated. A FIREMAN KILLED. (Received February 12th, 1.2 a.m.) SYDNEY. February 11. During the burning of a hoifse at Leichhardt a liremaa named Roberts was killed, the floor collapsing. Another fireman was injured. A POLICEMAN'S SUICIDE. A constable named Morrow shot himself <!*ad ou duty. lie had been ill. FOUNDATION DAY IN VICTORL\. MELBOURNE, February 11. Foundation day was observed as a general holiday. The i:hief event was a National Association Demonstration Sports. The speakers at the luncheon included Mr Barton, Premier of Australia, Sir G. Turner, Mr Deaken, and Mr Dnike. The Wheel Race was won by Markham. No details are available. VICTORIA*' PARLIAMENT. Mr W. H. Williams, Ministerial, has been elected for the St. Kilda seat in the Victorian Parliament, vacated by Sir George Turner. THE LISMORR CASE. (Received February 11th, 10.58 p.m.) SYDNEY, February 11. The officials state that the Lismore case is not one o>l plague. QUEENSLAND POLITICS. BRISBANE, February 11. Mr Murray relinquishes the portfolio of Railways ami becomes Postmaster-General, with a seat in the Legislative Council. TRADE WITH SOUTH AFRICA. At a meetirjg of the Brisbane Chamber of Commarce it was resolved to urge the Government to send a representative to South Africa to enquire whether there is any opening for Queensland products. BRISBANE, February 11. Mr Seddon, in a cable to Mr Philp, says New Zealatfd has no intention of making any concessions to the Eastern Extension Cable Company. Our Anent-CJeneral has been requested to inform Canada that it is probable Queensland will follow Xew Zealand's example.
