THE CHURCH AND THE POOR.
TO THE EDITOR OF THE TRESS Sir, —I hope, in common fairness, you will allow mc to say a few words on this subject, > as in the recent Police Court case, you pub- j lished in extenso all the rubbish the lawyer j representing the Church Property Trustees J had to say about the matter. As your i readers are now aware, I rented a cottage in ■ Kilmore street from the Church Property j Trustees, not to live in, but to throw it open to public inspection. A reporter from the "Lyttelton Times" went over the premises, and a full report was published" in j their issue of January 30th, showing that i the place, by long continued neglect, had i got into a most disgraceful condition. The . excuse was made by the officer of the ; Church Property Trustees that it was never i intended to let'this cottage, but you omit ; to state that it was admitted, on cross-ex- j amination, that a "To Let" sign was put in , . the window, and the place- ivas recently scrubbed out. —Yours, etc., H. JTJTSUM. Dunedin.
